Many people have found great memory retention benefits using a Leitner Box flashcard study game. While the writing out of facts for memorization should still be encouraged, using this Brainscape.com deck as a study tool removes the "fiddliness" that, in my experience, commonly plagues the Leitner box system. Brainscape uses a similar "game" mechanic as the Leitner Box does. The student will study repeatedly the items for which he has low retention, while reviewing the items for which he has demonstrated mastery less often. This has produced excellent results for me as I have used brainscape for my students when they were younger, to achieve Memory Master in the foundations levels of classical conversations. My recommendation for most: As the teaching parent, be the one who is determining the quality of the memorization of the facts at first. The reason for this is that your students may not be able to self-assess very well at first. After they have done this with you in foundations you can let them try alone in challenge if you feel they understand the importance of honest self evaluation. Quality assessment of how well a fact is known drives the effectiveness of brainscape's system. I hope this is helpful as you persevere to know God and make Him known.
