ID 440 builds upon and extends the knowledge and skill base gained by students through ID 435 Environmental Systems for Interior Design and continues exploration of the fundamentals, perception and application of interior lighting design. Where possible course content will utilize and reinforce content undertaken in ID445 Studio 6. Components will include a review of lighting basics as well as the psychological and physiological aspects of artificial and natural light. The course will consist of a thorough, yet balanced, emphasis on both the technical and aesthetic aspects of the many potential solutions to a particular lighting problem. Through a series of basic lighting design projects the students will develop problem seeking/analytical skills as they pertain to interior lighting issues. Ultimately the course will provide the skills necessary for students to intuitively and competently design, properly communicate and technically document their illumination design intent.
