About Greek on Brainscape
What is Greek?
The Greek language is a separate branch of the Indo-European family and is spoken in the native country Greece and surrounding areas of the Eastern Mediterranean and Black Sea.
Greek rates low in terms of the number of speakers with just 12 million global speakers yet it remains a popular language to study largely due to its history; Acropolis and ancient Greece gave Western society much of its thought and philosophy in addition to the building blocks of our science and mathematics.
Taking a year to live in Greece during your studies will improve your language skills and give you the opportunity to see the sights of Ancient Greece. Majors may take many career options after graduating including roles in education, translation, tourism, foreign affairs, immigration, customs, aid agencies, and media. Check out this Ancient Greek in 18 minutes video to get up to speed.
