About Neurobiology on Brainscape
What is Neurobiology?
Neurobiology is the branch of biology that studies the structure and function of the nervous system in both animals and humans. It focuses, specifically, on cells and tissues of the nervous system and the manner in which they form circuits, which in turn, control our bodies.
The term 'neurobiology' and ‘neuroscience’, are often used interchangeably but there is a difference. Neuroscience refers to a larger discipline encompassing more interdisciplinary aspects than neurobiology alone.
Careers in Neurobiology
Pursuing a career as a neurobiologist, a type of neuroscientist will probably involve earning a Ph.D. in neuroscience, as well as maybe attending medical school.
Neurobiology is a fascinating field that still needs talented new scientists to further uncover secrets that could make huge differences for those suffering from neurological disorders including Alzheimer's disease, schizophrenia, Parkinson's disease, and strokes.
Many jobs in neurobiology or neuroscience are in research, either working for hospitals, universities or government facilities. Private companies often work on products for neurological and psychiatric patients and may work conjointly with government facilities when productive to do so. Working in hospitals and universities, neurobiologists will undertake some teaching duties in among their research.
If you are interested in pursuing a career in neurobiology, then you’ll find lots of helpful information at the Society for Neuroscience or the International Youth Neuroscience Association. You could check out another video from the Crash course team’s awesome biology course.
Learning Neurobiology
Mastering neurobiology is no easy task! Students will need to comprehend and memorize a large compendium of information. Whilst neurobiology falls into the biology sub-discipline of the biological science classification; it is closely linked to molecular biology which falls in the biochemistry sub-discipline of biological sciences.
In fact, this complex subject coincides and merges with a number of biological disciplines. Accordingly, you may find these other pages useful too: cellular biology, histology, physiology, psychology, pharmacology, and radiology.
Brainscape is the perfect study aid to help you tackle the difficult concepts associated with neurobiology--and remember the vast amounts of complex terminology and information involved.

Learn faster with Brainscape
To take on the challenging task of learning neurobiology, then using a super-charged learning tool makes sense.
Brainscape is transforming the way people learn with its remarkable system known as Confidence-Based Repetition (or CBR). Studying with Brainscape means you’ll actually learn twice as fast AND remember longer.
The CBR system incorporates three scientifically proven learning methods: active recall, spaced repetition, and metacognition. This fusion makes CBR the most powerful education tool available today.
The first learning method employed in the CBR system is active recall. It’s this process that learners use to retrieve answers. It’s separate from your brain recognizing it in a pattern. When students do this, they strengthen the neurons and memory trace. As a result, it’s easier to retrieve the same information in the future due to the strong neural pathways.
CBR system also incorporates spaced repetition which you’ll see replicated in the flashcard format that Brainscape uses. This effective learning method dates back to the 1930’s.
It’s the third learning method of metacognition, fueling the Brainscape algorithm that sets it apart. In the seamless user delivery, after each flashcard, learners leave a metacognitive rating of 1-5 by considering their understanding of the answer. The algorithm can then use this information to set the frequencies of the cards. This way of setting the frequencies, frees up your time to focus on weaker areas and you improve at lightning speed.
With traditional learning methods and other computer-aided learning tools you always waste time but with Brainscape you never do.
The Brainscape system is favored by top academics and doctors, so get started today!
