Mission of CE
Command, control, direct, plan, and coordinate the air, ground, logistics, intel, comms and information systems (CIS) operations of assigned forces.
Cannot delegate responsibility, but can designate parts of authority.
CO has OPCON and TACON of assigned forces
Chief of Staff
C/S (often XO)
- directing, coordinating, supervising, training the staff. Routine managerial duties.
- conduit between staff/subordinate commanders and CO.
- Chief information officer
- ensures proper coordination of staff activities horizontally and vertically
Principle Staff
Section heads- coordinated by C/S (or XO). For major commands, AC/S assigned to each section.

Special Staff
Advise and assist CO and principle staff (legal, supply matters etc.) Duties and number vary at each command. Example is PMO who reports to C/S but might liaise w/ G1,3,4 for various functions.
Personal Staff
Work directly for CO- Aides, SgtMaj, personal secretaries.
SgtMaj- discipline, morale, welfare, conduct, leadership of enlisted personnel
Staff secretary
Admin assistant to C/S- not a member of general or special staff.

Public affairs officer
- PAO staff planning for FMF ops- prep annex F for OPORD
- gathers info for news/internal stories; assigns correspondents
- assists planning/scheduling CO interviews
- preps designated anniversary messages for CG
- political/military advisor to CG, especially in host nation matters; preps political/military briefing for DV visits
- coordinates w/ G5 when necessary
Comptroller
Financial manager- under c/s, only assigned to major commands. Most duties assigned to G4, except disbursing which is G1.
- budgets, reports, translates missions objectives into financial goals
- coordinates and manages external audits
- coordinates internal managment control program
- administers savings bonds program
- coordinates commerical ticket program and prot handling/inland transport
SJA
Staff judge advocate- assist processing legal matters and administering military justice.

- reviews/recommends action on investigations and claims
- advises/legal assist for military personnel
- legal assist to CG and staff on- law of war; civ/mil relations/jurisdiction; civil affairs; international law/relations; claims, litigations, investigations, reports; local laws in AO; negotiation of contracts w/ indigenous orgs; contract/labor/environmental law
IG
Inspector General
- inspections/investigations as directed by CG
- recommends measures/actions to correct deficiencies
- processes request mast petitionsand acts as their agent by hearing request mast cases during CG inspection program

- Submits intel requirments beyond MAGTF capabilities to HQ for coordination
- rapidly processes, analyzes, incorporates intel into products and disseminates to MAGTF and external units
- Evaluates outside all-source intel and adjusts IR
- ID intel deficiencies and trains to improve
- facilitates undestanding and use of intel for planning and execution of operations
