Hit the Philippines on the 8th November 2013
Why was the Philippines so vulnerable to typhoons
Because of the large amount of warm water that surrounds the 7000 islands that make up the country
Strong winds pull in moisture from the water and convert it into heat
The heat causes more air to flow to the centre of the storm causing evaporation
All the heat and air then lower toward the eye creating the typhoon

Its path was tracked by scientists but getting people who live on islands to safety proved very difficult

The death toll was 6190 with a further 1785 people missing.
The worst affected city was Tacloban which lost more of its people than any other area
371,000 had to be evacuated, with many ending up living in refugee centres which themselves were destroyed leaving thousands homeless
