What is the definition of diffusion?
The net movement of molecules or ions from a region where they are more highly concentrated to one where their concentration os lower until evenly distributed
Is facilitated diffusion passive or not
Passive
Does facilitated diffusion require ATP?
No
What are the two types of protein involved in facilitated diffusion?
What do protein channels allow through
Specific water soluble ions
How do protein channels work?
The ions bind with the protein causing it to change shape in a way that closes it to one side of the membrane and opens it to the other side
How do carrier proteins work?
When a molecule such as glucose that is specific to the protein is present it binds with the protein this causes it to change shape in such a way that the molecule is releases to the inside of the membrane.
