Polymers
Large molecules comprised of many repeat units.
In addition polymers the chain grows as a result of addition of a monomer with a double bond.
Condensation polymers arise from reaction of carboxylic acids and alcohol or primary amine.
All atoms in polymer backbone chain are carbons joined by single bonds.
Hydrolysing Esters and Amides
In base:
Carboxylic acid product converted into carboxylate anion.
In acid:
Amide product converts to ammonium ion.
