No peripheral therapeutic sites of action
Antipyretic
Reduce fever
Inhibit prostaglandin E2 production within hypothalamus
Acetaminophen max daily dose
4000mg/day for adult
2400mg/day age 11-12
Acetaminophen Contraindications
hepatic disease
renal disease
alcoholism
drug allergy
Acetaminophen toxicity
OD: Hepatic necrosis (drug-induced hepatitis)
Can be lethal
Long-term ingestion of large doses can cause nephropathy
Acetaminophen overdose antidote
Acetylcysteine (mucomyst)
Protects liver from acetaminophen-induced damage
