multipotent stem cell–>lymphoid progenitor—-> B lymphocytes—> plasma cell
summarise the common stages of B and T cell development
1st stage: generation of and antigen receptor via VDJ gene rearrangement
2nd stage: refinement of antigen receptor repertoire via +ve selection, those that bind not too strongly and not too weakly
3rd stage: stim by foreign antigen, clonal selection of lymphocytes, generation of effector and memory lymphocytes
