Define adhesive capsulitis
Formation of excessive scar tissue or adhesions across the glenohumeral joint, causing stiffness, pain and dysfunction
Stages of adhesive capsulitis (4)
1- inflammatory cells invade the synovium, causing shoulder pain at night
2- synovial proliferation causes dense tissue formation- cause stiffness
3- dense collagenous tissue forms within capsule- cause decrease ROM, pAin at end of range
4- chronic stiffness stage- but minimal pain
