Extender and Semen Process
- Put 1L distilled water inside the flask prior to
collection. - Put the flask in the water bath.
- Measure the temperature of the collected
boar semen and then set the temperature of
the water bath similar to the temperature of
the semen. (In this activity, the collected
semen measures 32 degrees centigrade,
therefore, the water bath was also set in
similar temperature). - While waiting for the water to reach the
set temperature, pour 1 sachet of Boar
Semen Extender inside the flask and
dissolve.

How to measure sperm density
Pour 2 mL semen and 10 mL Boar
Extender solution in the densimeter
bottle. Secure the lid.
Put inside the densimeter machine
and wait until it shows the semen
density.
Sperm dilution
- When pouring the semen to the container with
the water (same temperature), pour slowly to
avoid sperm shock. - Mix the semen to the water.
- In this activity, a total of 1200 mL dilution is
produced. - Pour the diluted semen to the squeeze bottle for
packaging.

Insemination Process
- Insert catheter up to the sow cervix rotating in 45 degrees counterclockwise.
- Insert the squeeze bottle to the catheter *Do not insert squeeze bottle until the
catheter is locked inside the cervix. - Squeeze the semen to the catheter. Cover the lid. *Only 1 bottle is required for sow
in standing heat; otherwise, use 2 bottles. - Leave the catheter for 15-30 minutes or longer to ensure that all the semen will enter
the reproductive tract and there is no backflow. - Once done, remove the catheter in clockwise direction.
