Problem Scoping is the first phase after identifying the problem in developing the AI project. This is where we identify the problem and set goals that we want our project to achieve. It can be defined as the problem-definition phase of AI project. All other phases follow this phase, so without proper problem scoping, everything else will fail.

How do we begin?
- Select a theme
- Look inside the theme and find out the topics where problems exist. Since a theme is vast, we have to go deeper.
- After listing down the topics, find out various problems which come under them. These problems will now be specific as they have been narrowed down from a broader perspective.
- Select any one of the problems and write it as the goal of the project.
- Now you should have a clear vision of what you’re looking forward to.

A theme is a broad term which covers all the aspects of relevance under it. It has various components further attached to it.
Examples- cyber security, environment, agriculture, women safety, health, transport, tourism, etc.
What is a 4W Canvas and what are its parameters?
It is a step-by-step scoping method to solve the problem at hand. It helps identify the key elements related to the problem. The parameters of the 4W Canvas are:
Who: This is the first block of the 4W Canvas. It gives details of stakeholders who are directly and indirectly affected by the problem.
What: This is the second block of the 4W Canvas. It tells us the nature of the problem and what makes it qualify as a problem. These details should be supported by relevant and valid evidence.
Where: This is the third block of the 4W Canvas. It helps us identify where the problem comes from and tells us the location or situation where the problem is prominent.
Why: This is the fourth block of the 4W Canvas. It tells us why we should solve the problem and how the solution will improve the situation of an individual or society.

A problem statement is a clear description of the issues. It includes a vision, issue statement, and method used to solve the problem. It is used to put 4Ws problem Canvas in a paragraph form for better understanding.
