When is an APA used?
In CBTC territory when the proceed authority that is normally provided by the signaling system in operation is not available
EXAMPLES:
- CBTc system failure
- proceed authorities, unable to be issued or received due to failure of signaling equipment

Or if above not available then next clearly identifiable wayside asset
For non reporting trains in mixed mode areA, when are apas given

When is an apa transmitted?
Signal is unable to display a proceed aspect
Loss of comms or CBT failure, irregularity and unable to operate under aTP (auto train protection)

When can a driver proceed under an APA?
When it is understood by the driver
When there is a failure of points detection is APA transmitted or dictated
Transmitted only once points are set
When the APA is dictated, does the driver need to contact the signal to let them know the move is complete

When the APA is transmitted, does the driver need to let the Sign know that the APA has been fulfilled?
No
The signal can see via wayside comms that the driver has stopped and transitioned to AM mode
