Acute inflammation of the appendix
S/s
Vague abdominal pain in the initial stages, localizing to the right lower quadrant over a few hours
Nausea and vomiting (which usually develop after the onset of pain)
Small-volume, frequent, soft stools, often confused with diarrhea
Fever (usually low grade unless perforation occurs, which results in high fever)
Management/Tx
Management:
- antibiotics for 7-14 days
Tx:
- emergency surgery
