What is appendicitis?
This is acute inflammation of the appendix
Epidemiology of Appendicitis?
Very common
Affects any age group
Mortality is 1% (very young, very old or pregnant)
Pathology of Appendicits?
Obstruction of the appendical lumen
Causes inflammation and ischaemia may lead to necrosis and gangrene
Clinical Presentation
Ill defined initial symptoms:
Nausea,
Anorexia,
Central Abdominal Pain
Progresses to right illiac fossa pain
Pertionism
Rebound tenderness a5 McBurney’s point
Treatment for appendicits?
Appendectomy (Either open or laproscopically)
Complications?
Perforation
Abscess Formation
Sepsis
