Homo naledi
Homo naledi lived between 236,000 335,000 years ago
-many fossils of this hominin were recovered from the Rising Star Cave System in South Africa
-has a small cranial capacity around 550-650 cc, features similar australopithecines and homo genus
-over 1,500 fossils representing 15 individuals have been identified
Sima del Elefante
-in 2022, a partial hominin midface was found in levels dating between 1.1 and 1.4 mya
-the face resembles that of Homo erectus and has been classified as Homo affinis erectus. The site also contained an animal bone with a stone cut tool mark providing evidence of meat consumption
Gran Dolina
this site revealed Homo antecessor fossils dating to about 800,000 years ago. The hominin skeletons showed evidence of being butchered to obtain meat and bone marrow, this seems to represent some of the earliest cannibalism in the archaeological record.
-Homo antecessor had a cranial capacity of 1000cc, had a low forehead, no chin, and a occipital bun similar to Homo erectus
