● Each group of 6-8 confederates was presented with a standard line and three comparison lines
● Pptss had to say which comparison line matched the standard line in length
● In each group there was only one true Ppts
● The confederates were told to give the incorrect answer on 12 out of 18 trails

• True Ppts conformed on 36.8%
• conformed to avoid rejection and continued to privately trust their own opinions (compliance).
• Individual differences = 25% of the ppts never conformed
