Except in the event of immediate threat to life or property, no valves should be opened or closed without the approval of the FDNY IC in consultation with Con Edison/Iroquois personnel.
Unit Alarm Assignment/Instruction Cards shall contain the box number 8600 identifying the Iroquois Natural Gas Pipeline/Con Edison Hunts Point Facility and the number of units for the first alarm response assignment. Instructions on the card will indicate if the unit is to respond to the Incident Command Post or the Staging Area.
Each 1st through 3rd alarm unit has been issued two Unit Alarm Assignment /Instruction Cards. One card shall be carried on the apparatus; the other card shall be placed in a prominent, clearly marked and protected place at the housewatch, for use by relocated units.
Duties of units may involve manually shutting down valves and/or patrolling the pipeline to locate the reported leak or fire.

Company Commanders shall ensure that these cards are not bent or otherwise damaged so as to ensure that the card will work when needed.
After each roll call, the officer on duty shall record an entry in the Company Journal stating that the assigned Metrocard is accounted for and on the apparatus.
When a Metrocard is reported lost, stolen or damaged, the officer on duty shall immediately notify the PTSU.
In addition to this notification, the officer on duty shall file a police report and complete a Loss Property Report ensuring that the MTA NYC Transit identification number is included on all reports. Even after power has been removed, capacitors retain a potentially deadly electrical charge.
Transmission and distribution substations typically have two battery rooms, each containing as many as 60 car-type batteries.
Large transformers have a 20,000 – 60,000 gallon oil capacity and either boost or reduce the voltage of incoming and outgoing electricity. Exposed electrical contacts and high voltages can pose a significant threat to firefighters.
Some areas of these transformers cannot be retro filled or tested and may still contain PCBs.
Treat all transformer incidents as PCB incidents. Smoke, spilled oil and water runoff from transformer fires may be contaminated with PCBs.

CHAUFFEUR TRAINING AND AVAILABILITY
