Q

Definition

Variation

A

The physical differences within a species.
There is genetic variation which is determined purely by genes for example skin colour.
There is enviromental variation which is dependent on your enivroment for example tatoos.

Q

Who discovered the theory of natural selection and explain how it works

A

Charles Darwin

Organisms with the most suitable characteristics for the enviroment would be more succesful competitors and more likely to survive.
If more survive they are more likely to reproduce and so are more likely to pass on their genes to the next generation.

Q

Explain Lamarck’s theory and an example

A

Lamarck argued that changes ocurring in an organism’s life would be passed onto heir organism
if a rabbit runs a lot the child would be stronger in their legs and have longer legs

Q

What are the 3 domains
Explain each

A

Archea- Primitive bacteria they are extremophiles. Prokaryotic

Bacteria-These are true bacteria like E coli. Lots of biochemical differences with Archea.

Eukaryota- Eukaryotic cells including protists fungi animals and plants

Q

Definiton

Speciation and how does it occur

A

The devlopment of a new species.

Occurs when populations of the same species become so different that they can no longer succesfully interbreed to produce fertile offspring. Due to different enviroments

Q

How does isolation lead to speciation

A

Isolation is when populations are seperated. This can happen due to a physical barrier.
Then in different geographical locations different characterisitcs will become more common which deviates them from each other becoming new species.
