Protection of bee colonies/ obligations of bee-keeper – additional question ?

Answer 1

• Each year from spring to early winter → Check bees, brood every 3 weeks
• Movement of bee colonies only with vet authority certificate:
  New place of keeping should be:
  ▪ free from notifiable disease
  ▪ and is not under restriction
• 1st June – 30th September → monitoring examinations that are:
  organized by district veterinary officer
  carried out by official vet

• Kill bee colonies (with sulfate dioxide fumigation)
• Burn and burry carcasses and products, comb, brood
• Burn and burry min 50cm deep every combustible material from hive
• Strict disinfection of hive, equipment, buildings, soil

> 5 km radius protection zone
- No movement of colonies
- No exhibition with bees
- Examination of all colonies
Bees can only be moved for:
- Wandering (move bees with flowering plants)
Only from places not under restriction and with veterinary checks
▪ With authorization from district vet officer
▪ 60 days observation with check every 2 weeks
- “Escape” due to plant protection (if pesticides used for plants that can harm bees)
With official vet is notified
Bees should be back to original place within 14 days

• Marking bee colonies (hives)
• Prohibited AB treatment
• No intervention that can transmit the disease
• Laboratory examination from suspected of being diseased colonies

• Honey, comb, wax used only after industrial heat treatment (1h-112°C)
• For remaining colonies: Check twice a month until lifting restriction

- All colonies killed (with fumigation) AND strict disinfection
- OR 60 days observation (with non-brooding period) AND strict disinfection
For suspected of being infected
- Ruled out by laboratory

• Obligatory treatment of all colonies in protection zone (Ø AB authorized in Hungary)
• • check every 2 weeks
• If treatment refused → kill without State compensation
• If weak colony → kill +/- State compensation (because not notified in time)
• If EFB + AFB: ! Prohibited treatment + kill diseased colonies
• Strict disinfection
• Treated colonies put into clean, disinfected hive
