What is the test for starch?
Add iodine then look to see if colour has changed from brown/ orange is blue/ black it means starch is present
Benedict’s test for reducing sugars
Benedict’s regent is added (starts blue) then boil - if a reducing sugar is present it will turn red
Benedict’s test for non reducing sugars
Boil sample of benedict's solution Boil a fresh sample with dilute acid Neutralise with alkalis Now redo the benedict's test If it turns red a non reducing sugar was present in the first step
