what is biodiversity?
the variety of all the different plants and animals found on earth
what is a habitat?
the place where an organsism lives
what is an adaptation?
an adaptation is features that allow plants/aniimals to survive in their habitat
what do you use to identify soemthing that you are unsure of what species it is or even , what type of organism it is?
a key
name the two different types of keys
paired statement key and branch key
what does a plant need in order to photosynthesize?
a green pigment cholorophyll that absorbs sunlight, sunlight, water and carbon dioxide (the result is oxegen and glucose)
what colour does iodine turn when starch is present?
blue and/or black
plants make their own —-(—–) using the process of photosynthesis. this —– is then converted into ——
food(sugar) , sugar, starch
what are some uses of plants?
raw material, fuel, shelter, medicine, clothes, food and oxegen and a habitat for certain organisms
how do you estimate a large area or quantity of things by only taking a small sample?
use quadrats
how do you use a quadrat?
hold at waist height and throw randomly
what does a quadrat do?
estimates a large amount of plants by using a small sample
what is a quadrat?
a square shaped tool that helps estimate a large amount of items using a small sample
name an alternative to using pesticide
biological control
what is an alternative to fertiliser
manure or compost
how do you test for starch?
add iodine and if it turns blue or black there is starch present
draw the equation to photosynthesis
DRAW IT MF
what are gm foods and give the advantages and disadvantages
genetically modified food, is where you take the genes of one food and combine it with another crops dna, the advantage can be depending on hoe you modify it, but pests will not eat it, they can inrease their yield so less fertiliser is required and they can also be modified to have more nutrients and vitamins a disadvantage is that there will be less of other plants due to them being sampled and stuff
name some examples of gm foods and how they are modified
bananas are rsistant to pests and slow down their ripening, tomatoes also have a slower ripening making them last longer, corn is resistant tocorn borer and has fish oils, golden rice has more vitamin a than regular, cotton resists to pests
what is an organism
a living thing that has some sort of way to sustain itself and survive
what is climate change?
climate change is a long term shift in the planets average temparature beause of green house gases being released (the temprature is increasing)
what causes an increase in climate change and also what is one of the main green house gases released from burning fossil fuels
human activity such as deforestation and combustion of fossil fuels (coal oil and gas). and carbon dioxide

human activity such as deforestation and combustion of fossil fuels (coal oil and gas). and carbon dioxide
what are some animals affected by climate change and how
turtles: there are more female turtles due to the gender depending on the temprature of the eggs.penguins:the heat melts the ice and they will have no platform to rest.koala:koalas mainly eat a certain type of leaf and when heat is applied the leafs nutrirnts that the koala needs gets stripped away.
