2
Q

Process of formation of fossils

A
  1. dies -> covered by sediments -> soft part decomposed -> hard parts left behind
  2. new sediments over older ones, compress them into layers of sedimentary rocks. Minerals in water deposit in the skeleton and turn it into fossil
  3. Earth movement raises sedimentary rocks above water. Further earth movement and weathering exposes the fossils

Q

Why are some organisms unable to form fossils

A
  1. not all organisms can be fossilized
  2. remains of organisms eaten / decomposed
  3. conditions in which organisms die not suitable for fossil formation

Q

Why is it impossible to find complete fossil records

A
  1. located in inaccessible areas
  2. most fossils are only body parts, not whole organisms
  3. chance of discovering fossils are low
