Who is responsible for overall personnel accountability for the incident?
The incident commander
Accountability
To maintain continuous status and location of all resources, committed to an incident.
Command Channel
Radio channel designated by the IC, provided for communications between the IC and the Management components (Divisions or Groups) during emergency incidents.
Emergency Channel 6
Used by Department Personnel during an emergency situation where a firefighter is down, missing or trapped during an incident.
What happens when the Emergency Trigger button is activated?
The hand-held radios automatically switch to channel 6 and lock the system in “repeat” mode until radio is reset manually by turning it off.
Clear Text
Common terminology used for communication and is understood by all members.
Emergency Traffic
Term used to clear designated radio channels to make way for important pertinent information that may be of a safety concern for members, or an immediate change in tactical operations.

Distinctive high/ low tone initiated by MFC on the Incident Tactical Channel and the Command Channel .
Emergency Trigger
Orange button on top of hand held radio, when depressed it activates the emergency feature of the hand-held radio and is a factor for personnel accountability.
Firefighter Dorn, missing or trapped clear text terms used for
radio communications to notify personnel on-scene at an emergency that a firefighter accident or emergency has occurred.
Immediately dangerous to life or health (IDLH)
Any atmosphere that poses an immediate hazard to life or produces immediate irreversible debilitating effects on health.
Incident tactical channels
the radio channel designated by MFC for incident operations.
Mobile Data Computer (MDC)
the data terminal for all emergency apparatus that will display dispatch and other information.
Personnel Accountability Report (PAR)
A personnel accountability verbal report of personnel and companies assigned to an incident.
Radio ID Number
The specific 4-digit number assigned to each hand held radio.
Transmitted as identification each time the “push to talk” button is depressed and translated at MFC into an identifier such as “T-10 CII or E-9 NOZ”.
Rapid Intervention Company (RIC)
A company or companies designated to stand by in a state of readiness to perform a rescue effort of department members.
Rescue Group Supervisor
A functional position with the responsibility for supervising one or more Rapid Intervention Companies assigned to stand by for the rescue of personnel.
Rescue Tactical Channel
The assigned rescue tactical channel used by the Rapid Intervention Company/Companies and the Incident Commander or Rescue Group Supervisor to monitor rescue progress and communicate among the rescue personnel.
What happens when a transmission is made from any department radio?
the identification of that radio is transmitted at the beginning of the radio message.
Where does the hand held radio identification appears when actuated ?
On all the dispatch consoles at the MFC.
