What is diffusion?
The movement of particles in a fluid from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration, until the concentrations are even throughout. Diffusion is a random process and affected by temperature, pressure and molecular mass.
What is concentration?
Concentration is a measure of the number of particles in a given volume.
What is a concentration gradient?
Whenever the concentration of a substance differs between two connected spaces, this difference is called a concentration gradient.
What process is diffusion?
A passive process since it doesn’t need energy to happen.
In which direction is diffusion moving on the concentration gradient?
Down the concentration gradient
How does temperature effect the rate of diffusion?
Per the kinetic particle theory, the more thermal energy applied, the faster particles move, moving faster down the concentration gradient, increasing the rate of diffusion
Which gas particles moves faster, particles with more mass or less mass?
Less mass, because it requires less kinetic energy to move them
