Calorimetry
the process of measuring the amount of hear released or absorbed during a chemical reaction
How is calorimetry measured?
The change in temperature of the calorimeter is converted into the amount of heat energy produced by the reaction. You need to know the heat capacity of the surroundings, masses of the system and surroundings, changes in temperature
Energy (q) =
Mass heated (m) x specific heat capacity (c) x temperature rise (deltaT)
energy given out by one mole (deltaH) =
q/moles in reaction
What to do (to find enthalpy of combustion/neutralization)
