What is a white spot lesion
Chalky white appearance due to increased porosity due to loss of mineral form the surface of the crystals
Clinically visible after 4 weeks
Hard to probe
What happens under the microscope after 1 week of plaque presence
Increased surface porosity
Dissolution of perikymata
Enlarged intercrystalline spaces/pores
What are liquefaction foci
Coalescing and broken down dentinal tubules
They fill necrotic debris
Increase in size by expanding causing adjacent tubules to distort
What are dead tracks
Within the sclerotic zone
Form due to the dying back of the odontoblastic processes into their cell bodies
