Theme: Macbeth vs Self-Ambition (where do we see this evident and what quotes to support?)

A
  • Macbeth is not naturally inclined to kill, before his prophecies he was a valiant leader, loyal, and respectable warrior
  • He is clouded by this opportunity which gets the best of his better judgement.
  • He is fueled by the possibility of becoming king, this channels his ambitions to a higher rate so he can seize that dream even faster which sends him into a spiral of tyranny
  • Lady Macbeth is filled with ambition, even as much as Macbeth has, she takes his prophecies as a sign to push him to seize that crown at any cost.
  • Macbeth uses his ambition to succeed at his duty, he is courageous, brave, and will never stop fighting, when that is challenged by a darker force your ambitions start to consume you to make decisions that lead you into the wrong direction

Q

Real life parallel to Ambition

A
  • People will cheat, lie, maneuver in any form in order to get ahead, this mindset of ambition often rids a conscience of valuable morals for personal gain
  • Once you are using violence to achieve something greater it is hard to put a stop to your actions. Macbeth already knew he was going to suffer the consequences so he tried everything to continue to dig a deeper hole of himself

Q

Main conflict

A

The main conflict that changes macbeth’s character throughout the story is his own ambition that results in the downfall of his character. He becomes blindsided and fails to notice the moral line he crosses as he sinks further into his tyranny
- macbeth becomes consumed by his bad choices where he battles paranoia, guilt, and fear as well as the desire to maintain his power making him unrecognizable
- Macbeth achieved everything but nothing at the same time. He lost his family, friends, and wife, all because his own ambitions got the best of him
