How my brexit affect SS

A

Positively, as it helps protect domestic businesses to decrease dependence on other countries
E.g.gov should make protecting the UK’s ability to build its own helicopters part of its industrial strategy e.g. 3000 people currently employed at Leonardo’s helicopters

However, yeovil MP said that engineers were ‘beginning to leave in numbers’ and said that yeovil investment was being delayed

Q

International and global influences shaped ur places

A

Bristol- TNCs e.g. Aardman animations create high skilled jobs
Vulnerable t globalisation- it is a major port and therefore in competition w other global cities
Diverse pop- reliant on immigration
It’s airport and the fact that it’s a major port also shows how international investment has been mportnat for ecomic growth in city

SS-relatively isolated - this limits its attractiveness to FDI, Westland’s helicopters has been purchased by Leonardo’s and Italian company, puts thousands of jobs in SS in the hands of foreign owners
Globalisation poises a real risk to economic growth in the area as does brexit

Regeneration in Tottenham ,North ldn

A

Highest unemployment rates in UK, w many families living in cramped flats and being charged very high rents by private landlords
Regeneration including of Tottenham hotspurs new stadium- 10,000 new homes, redevelopment of peacock industrial estate- £28M spent

18
Q

Problems of regeneration in Tottenham

A

Not pop amongst residents- expansion of stadium led to 71 small businesses being lost

Local people feel they will not be able to get jobs in new businesses and new services don’t represent them

Good connections between central ldn and Tottenham, area will become gentrified and the 10,000 new homes will be unaffordable

Large African Caribbean community feeling that regeneration will not reflect their diverse community

Pressure groups= to put pressure on local councils to scrap plans for large scale property development in favor of small scale community regeneration. To improve parks and support for local businesses/residents
