What are the principles of cavity preparation?

1. Access
   - -> Dam
   - -> Remove enamel with high speed bur
2. Extent
   - -> Follow spread of caries at ADJ & clear
   - -> Smooth enamel cavo-surface margins
3. Remove dentinal caries
   - -> Sharp probe to detect ‘sticky’ caries
   - -> Only leave stain if hard under probe
   - -> Residual dentinous caries should be removed first before pulpal floor
   - -> Slow speed/ hand excavator
4. Modifications
   - -> Modify cavity in accordance to choice of restorative material
