The process whereby cells have a phenotype, size, shape, or functionality/metabolic change. eg. smoking causing Columnar cells to change to squamous in pulmonary epithelial lining

A
When the cell undergoes necrosis or apoptosis ie. shrinkage and death, due to lack of use or disease.
