What is the difference between prokaryotic and eukaryotic.
Eukaryotes are complex and are organisms made up of eukaryotic cells. Prokaryotic cells are smaller and simpler and are made from a prokaryotic cell ( single celled organism).
What is the function of the nucleus?
Contains genetic material that controls the activities of the cell.
What is the function of the cytoplasm?
Gel-like substance where most of the chemical reactions happen. It contains enzymes that control these chemical reactions.
What is the function of the mitochondria?
Where most reactions for aerobic respiration take place. Respiration transfers energy that the cells need to work.
What is the function of cell membrane?
Holds the cell together and controls what goes in and out.
What is the function of the cellulose cell wall?
Made of cellulose which supports and strengthens the cell.
What is the function of the ribosomes?
Where proteins are made in the cell/protein synthesis.
What is the function of the permanent vacuole?
Contains cell sap, a weak solution of sugars and salts.
What is the function of the chloroplasts?
Where photosynthesis occurs, which makes food for the plant. They contain a green substance called chlorophyll which absorbs light for the light needed for photosynthesis.
What is the genetic material that the bacteria cells contain?
Singular strand of DNA that floats around in the cytoplasm.
What are plasmids?
Small rings of DNA that are usually in the bacterial cell.
What internal structures does the bacteria cell not contain?
Mitochondria, nucleus and chloroplast.
