- extinction burst –> behaviour occurs more frequently with higher intensity at first
- increase in response variability –> different types of behaviours are tried in order to get the desired outcome
- Frustration and Aggression
- Depression (general decrease in behaviour)
- Resurgence (or regression) –> going back to an old behaviour that has previously gotten you what u wanted

A
when reinforcement is no longer presented after a behaviour therefore making the behaviour weaker

what is the difference between spontaneous recovery and renewal?
A
spontaneous recovery occurs when the behaviour randomly occurs again over a period of time during or after extinction and if not reinforced, will be extinguished really quickly. Renewal is the behaviour occurring again except in a different context than the one where extinction was done in

What is the effect of a positive or negative reinforcement on extinction?
A
In extinction:
- positive reinforcement is no longer delivered following the behaviour
- For negative reinforcement, the aversive stimuli is no longer removed from the environment following the behaviour

What are some factors that influence extinction?
A
- depends on the previous schedule of reinforcement used, if it was continuous or intermittent… intermittent reinforcement is harder to extinguish
- If reinforcement is given during an extinction trial just because its negatively reinforcing for the observing individual
- If theres any other good alternatives that the patient could do that can be reinforced instead of the wrong behaviour
