Chapter 0- Integers
*Negative and Positive Numbers, not including fractions or decimals.
Chapter 0- Fractions
- To subtract fractions make the denominator the same then subtract the numerator.
- To add fractions make the denominator the same then add the numerator.
- Simplify fractions at the end.
Chapter 0- PEMDAS
- PEMDAS mean Parenthesis, Exponent, Multiply, Divide, Addition, and Subtraction.
- When working on an algebraic problem, work through it in that order.
Chapter 0- Properties of Algebra
*Combine like terms, Simplify equation, and distribute any number in front of a parenthesis
Chapter 1- 1-Step Equations
*Being able to solve an equation with one step.
Chapter 1- 2-Step Equations
*Being able to solve an equation with two steps
Chapter 1- General Linear Equations
*What you do to one side of the equation you have to do to the other.
Chapter 1- Solving with Fractions
*When dealing with fractions you want to make sure that the denominator is the same on both fractions.
Chapter 1- Formulas
*When solving formulas you want to make sure that the variable is by itself.
Chapter 2- Points and Lines
*When trying to graph use the xy coordinates.
Chapter 2- Slope-Intercept Form
*When trying to find slope-intercept form use y=mx+b
Chapter 2- Point-Slope Form
*When trying to find point-slope form use y-y1=m(x-x1), if your given two points then solve for slope then do point-slope form
Chapter 2- Parallel and Perpendicular Lines
- Parallel lines will have the same slope.
* Perpendicular lines will have opposite slope or the reciprocal.
Chapter 3- Solve and Graph Inequalities
- Inequalities will use the greater than, and equal to sign.
- When solving for them you want to be wary of a bar underneath the signs. *This sign could change if a negative number is in front of the variable.
Chapter 3- Compound Inequalities
*When dealing with an inequality with two signs, you have to break it into two equations.
Chapter 3- Absolute Value Inequalities
- Absolute value is telling you how far from zero a number is.
- If there are variables on the same side as the inequality move them to the other side.
- When solving an inequality you make two equations and change the sign of the number on the second equation.
Chapter 4- Systems Graphing
*To determine whether a line(s) is parallel or perpendicular, you can look at the equation or the slope.
Chapter 4- Systems Substitution
*When given systems that shows one variable solved for plug it into the other equation to find the missing variables.
Chapter 4- Systems Addition Elimination
*When given systems that you can get rid of one of the variable then do that and solve for the remaining variable and plug it back into either system to find the other variable.
Chapter 5- Exponent Properties
- When you have variables that have the same base number, have exponents, and multiplying it then you add the exponents together. If you have the same thing but its dividing then you subtract the exponents.
- When you have a zero for an exponent then the answer is one.
Chapter 5- Negative Exponents
*When dealing with an exponent that’s negative you have to make it positive by doing its reciprocal.
Chapter 5- Scientific Notation
- When dealing with scientific notation, you always want to make sure that there is always one number in front of the decimal.
- Make sure to put x10^exponent number as this will tell you if its a large number or small number.
Chapter 5- Introduction to Polynomials
*When given two polynomials depending on the sign in the middle you either got to multiply, divide, add, or subtract them.
Chapter 5- Multiplying Polynomials
*Use FOIL method when multiplying binomials. FOIL standing for: First of the binomials, Outside being the numbers on the outer edge of the problem, Inside being the numbers in the middle,and Last being the last number of the binomial.
