Four aspects of disease process
Etiology
At the basic level, genetic vs. acquired. But most diseases are multifactorial
Pathogenesis
The sequence of cellular, biochemical, and molecular events that follow the exposure of cells/tissues to an injurious agent
Morphologic changes
Structural alterations in cells/tissues that are either characteristic of disease or diagnostic of an etiologic process
Clinical Manifestations
Cell injury - tissue and organ injury - morphologic changes - signs and symptoms
