Genomic Assembly
Genomic DNA is cut into numerous small overlapping fragments and cloned in bacteria. Each fragment is sequenced. Overlap in sequence is used to order the clones and the entire genomic sequence assembly by powerful computer programs.
Proteomics
the analysis of the protein complement to the genome; allows for unbiased identification and detection of many proteins from a single sample
Immuno Fluorescence Assay (IFA)
Western Blot
denatured proteins using sodium doceyl sulfate (SDS) and reducing agent. Then denatured proteins are separated by MW in an acrylamide gel. Proteins then need to be transferred from gel to nitrocellulose membrane.
2D-PAGE
proteins are separated in one dimension by charge, separated in a second dimension by mass, and then stained
Isoelectric focusing
separates proteins based on isoelectric point. The isoelectric point is the pH at which the protein has no net charge.
