Type 1 is installed directly on hardware, used on enterprise server and data center (imporves scalability, performance, and robustness)
Type 2 is software that runs on VM instances, runs on host machine, on top of existing OS

A

SDN controller allows separation of data plane and network control plane using APIs
flow travelling through network must get permission froom the controller first
controller creates and manages OpenFlow tables that defince the behaviour of network
