What is Selection?
Selection is the process of choosing among individuals with the relevant qualifications to fill existing or projected job openings.
The purpose of selection is to find the “best” candidate for the job – an individual who possesses the required KSAs and personality, who will perform well, embrace the corporate mission and values and fit the organizational culture.
The strategic significance of the selection process:
* Quality of employees determines whether the organization meetsits strategic plan.
* Individuals selected will be implementing strategic decisions.
* Candidates must fit with the strategic direction of the organization.
The Goal of Selection: Maximize “Hits” and Avoid “Misses”
A “Hit” is when the person we select succeeds and performs well on the job.
A “Miss” is when we make the wrong prediction on the candidate.
There is a chart, the bottom axis predicts success and the vertical axis predicts job performance.
