Interprets laws and decides if laws or presidential actions are unconstitutional

Congress creates laws, but the president can veto it. Congress can still pass the law with 2/3 majority

The president is the commander-in-chief of the military, but only Congress can officially declare war. The senate must approve peace treaties.

Makes sure the president and congress are following the constitution and law. The president chooses judges, but the senate must approve them

How are laws made in the Legislative branch?
1. Bills start in the house or the senate, but all tax bills are started by the house 2. The bill earns a majority vote in both chambers, who agree on the same version 3. The president either signs the bill, vetos the bill (which can be overrun with a 2/3 majority vote by both chambers), or takes no action. If no action is taken for 10 days while Congress is in session, it becomes law, but if it’s not in session, it becomes a pocket veto
