• Major changes e.g. weather (e.g. dog living in a very different environment).
• Acceptance of family/pets etc.

What is the order of priority for matching dogs to clients on the waiting list?

1. Replacement Guide Dog. (GD dies/GD is withdrawn/old etc.) Because client relies on a GD for primary mobility aid.
2. First time applicant on waitlist.
3. Applicants with specific needs.

• Instructor reviews dog records, client assessment notes, medical/ophthal. reports, o&m etc.
• Consultation with GD Trainer, GD Instructor and manager.
• GDT describes dog temp., attributes- including strengths and weaknesses.
• GDI describes client.
• Temperament, physical and working attributes of dog paired with client.
• Client contacted, notified of suitable dog, breed, sex, colour. Name of dog not provided yet.
• Training program chosen; client either accepts or declines.

What client age related changes/impairments need to be considered?

• Memory loss.
• Reduction in cognitive ability.
• Decreased motor skills.
• Secondary complications including arthritis.
• Hearing loss.

What are the necessary considerations for a client with hearing loss?
