How does Meta-representation explain schizophrenia?

A
  • There is dysfunctions in meta-representation which disrupt an individual’s ability to recognise their own thoughts and actions as being carried out by themselves rather than somebody else (for example, they may incorrectly identify their own voice for somebody else’s).

A
  • The ability to reflect on hough and behaviour. This provides insight into an individual’s intentions and goals and allows them to interpret the actions of others.
  • It means that individuals know what their own mental state is.

How does central control explain schizophrenia?

A
  • Those with schizophrenia tend to experience derailment of thoughts and spoken sentences because each word triggers associations, and the responses cannot be suppressed.
  • The inability to stop automatic thoughts and speech could explain the disorganised speech, speech poverty and disorganised thought that is seen in people with schizophrenia.
