Case-Control - Start with disease, look back for exposure. (patients with lung cancer compared to healthy individuals, exposure looked for)
Retrospective cohort - Both exposure and outcome already happened. (Employment records from 1990 used to identify asbestos exposure and cancer rates)

Cross sectional - Snapshot in time. Both outcome and exposure measured simultaneously
