- axial mach number is small-> the area is required to be larger for the same mass flow rate (larger weight, drag
- beta 1 and 3 are small-> larger flow turning is needed which leads to higher frictional losses
- blade mach umber is large-> the particle speed relative to the blade is also large which gives shock losses and structural failure
