What is the Wet Top Feed Method used for? And what are the environmental benefits?
The wet top feed method is a ground improvement technique used to strengthen soil, particularly sandy or silty soils, by creating stone columns. It involves inserting a vibrating probe (vibroflot) into the ground while simultaneously jetting water to keep the hole open. As the probe is withdrawn, aggregate (stone or gravel) is poured in from the surface to fill the void, and the vibroflot compacts the aggregate and the surrounding soil, creating a strong stone column.
Environmentally this is better as it uses natural materials to construct stone column. However, water run off is main concern.
