Stroke Volume is
the volume ejected by each heart beat; CO / HR
Contractility is
the force with which the heart propels the stroke volume forward
Contractility variables
Starling’s law the greater the stretch = the greater the contraction; catecholamines; Inotropes agents that change muscular contractions; stroke volume; electrical activity that initiate HR; myocardial wall movement (damaged by MI can’t move); physiologic demand (exercise)
Positive Inotropes
catecholamine; Ca+; dopamine; digoxin; glucagon insulin
Negative Inotropes
Beta blockers
