Cylinders, Regulators, Flowmeters (Comp 2)
(9 Steps)
PROCEDURAL STEPS
1. Selects appropriate cylinder and appropriate regulator and wrench (Read Label, Green Tank = O2)
2. Demonstrates proper handling of cylinder and proper transport (Needs to be secure in a cart)
3. Demonstrates or states the importance of cracking cylinder (WARN PEOPLE BEFORE CRACKING: Use wrench to turn on valve quickly to blow out any debris
4. Demonstrates or states how to place Regulator on Cylinder
5. Trouble shoots cylinder to ensure no leaks; corrects if necessary (Leaks due to Regulator on wrong or not tighten all the way)
6. Demonstrates or states how to close Cylinder Valve and Bleed the Pressure from Regulator
7. Returns the Cylinder to its original place of storage
FLOWMETERS
1. Connects flowmeter correctly to wall outlet; detects and corrects any leaks
2. Adjusts liter flow

Cylinders, Regulators, Flowmeters
(Steps 8-9)
FLOWMETERS
8/1. Connects flowmeter correctly to wall outlet; detects and corrects any leaks
9/2. Adjusts liter flow
Volume-Pressure (V-P) Conversion Factors
Equation to Determine: How much time there is of O2 in a Cylinder. Using Tank Pressure * V-P Factor / Liter Flow. Example: 2000 psi, E cylinder, 3 L Flow
2000 psi * .28 Factor= 560
560 / 3 L Flow = 186.66
186.66 / 60 min = 3.11
.11 min * 60 sec = 6.6
Answer is 3 hours and 6 minutes
Safety Systems for Small and Large Cylinders
Large Volume Nebulizer (Comp 2)
(13 Steps)
PROCEDURAL STEPS
1. Checks physician orders and/or verifies facilities protocol
2. Scans chart for diagnosis and any other pertinent data
3. Gathers appropriate equipment
4. Utilizes and maintains standard precautions as required
5. Introduces self and department and Identify patient
6. Explains purpose of O2 and/or Aerosol Therapy (Provide Humidity and O2)
7. Assesses patient Vitals before therapy (HR, RR, O2 Sat, Breath Sounds)
8. Sets up the aerosol device, verifies mist/flow, and applies the device to the patient (See Mist, turn up L/Flow if cannot see)
9. Assesses patient Vitals after therapy (HR, RR, O2 Sat, Breath Sounds)
10. Correctly cares for the equipment following the procedure
11. thanks patient and ensures safety and needs
12. Disposes of PPE; Washes/Gel Hands
13. Documents
