Dangling modifiers
a descriptive phrase that doesn’t clearly modify the word it’s supposed to
Running to class, the exam started.
(Was the exam running?)

The word right after the comma should be who/what is doing the action
Misplaced modifiers
attached to the wrong word, changing the meaning
She almost studied for three hours.
(did she study or not?)
FIXED
She studied for almost three hours.
Modifiers should be close to what they describe
Split infinitives
places a word between “to” and the verb
Modern English allows some split infinitives
TEAS prefers unsplit forms for clarity
Double negatives
uses two negatives to express one idea
I don’t have no time.
FIXED
I don’t have any time.
I have no time.
Only one negative per idea
