Situation

A

In my current role, I work as a scientist at Wessex Water. My work involves carrying out tests and analysing water samples to ensure our product meets government regulatory water standards. Q

Curious

A

I make sure I stay curious during my learning, so I ask questions to make sure I fully understand not just how to do something, but also why I need to do something and why it matters. I find this helps me develop a deeper and more grounded understanding of my work.

Managing

A

To manage the demands of the training, I created a structured study schedule and set weekly learning goals to stay consistent over the months. When the workload increased, I prioritised effectively, dedicating focused time each day to practice and revision while maintaining my normal duties.

Feedback

A

I am also strong believer in seeking feedback from my trainers, using this to improve each week, this helps me identify my strengths and weaknesses, clarifies misconceptions, and provides a roadmap for my improvement by linking my current performance to my learning goals.

Overcoming Challenges

A

I encountered challenges when these new changes seemed complex, but instead of becoming frustrated, I broke the process down into manageable steps and sought additional guidance from my trainer. I viewed each setback as an opportunity to strengthen my understanding, which helped me stay positive and motivated throughout.

Application of Learning

A

I then applied what I learned directly in practice — improving the accuracy of data entry, identifying errors more efficiently, and reducing processing times. I regularly shared these improvements with my manager to demonstrate the value of applying learning in real situations. This experience proved my resilience, adaptability, and ability to turn structured training into measurable performance results.

Q

Result

A

As a result of my approach, I often complete my training ahead of schedule and achieve one of the highest assessment scores in my group. The techniques I developed through my learning led to a measurable increase in accuracy and a noticeable reduction in processing errors within my team. My manager recognised my consistency and positive attitude, asking me to support new colleagues as they began their own training. The experience strengthened my confidence in managing demanding, structured learning programmes and proved that I can stay motivated, adapt to change, and apply new knowledge effectively to deliver real improvements in performance.
