Treatment challenges
Best solved if: Explore patients transference and therapist’s countertransference
Patients transference:
- Idealisation
- Possessive (Narcissistic/jealous)
- Projective identification (patient adopts clinicians manners)
Countertransference:
- Frustration due to neediness
- Overindulgence (protecting fragile patient)
- Pleasure feelings of power (can lead to exploitation)
